Federal gun crime charges levied against California man

Since weapons, in particular guns and explosives, are so dangerous, the law places strict guidelines on who and under what circumstances they can be owned. Failure to abide by these rules could result in allegations of federal firearms offenses, which might leave an accused individual with serious long-term consequences.

One California man may be in that situation now after he was taken into custody and charged with two federal firearms counts. According to authorities, the social media consultant acquired bomb-making materials and several lethal toxins, including pure nicotine, over the internet. A search of the accused man’s apartment allegedly yielded these materials as well as a handgun with its serial number removed. If convicted of the offenses, this man could spend up to 15 years in prison.

In order for prosecutors to obtain a federal gun crime conviction, they must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, which means they must satisfactorily prove every element of the alleged crime. This is no easy task, and can be made even more difficult by putting forth an aggressive criminal defense. An experienced criminal defense attorney may be able to assist an accused individual by using supportive evidence, witness accounts, case and statutory law, and authorities’ errors in an effort to get charges dropped or reduced.

Individuals who face federal gun crime charges do not want to face the consequences associated with a conviction. Their freedom, finances, and personal and professional relationships can be stripped from them, leaving them alone and scared. Fortunately, these individuals do not have to be afraid. Instead, they can walk into the courtroom confident in their chances with a powerful attorney by their side.
