Two Californians taken into custody on federal drug crime charges

Many Californians are aware of synthetic drugs known as “spice” or “bath salts.” These drugs often include illegal chemicals which some claim are excessively dangerous, even deadly. For this reason, authorities aggressively pursue individuals who manufacture and distribute synthetic drugs. Those who find themselves butting heads with the police and federal agents may find themselves facing serious drug trafficking crimes, which can completely change an individual’s life for the worse.

This may be the situation for two Californians who were taken into custody for allegedly selling millions of dollars’ worth of synthetic drugs. Authorities claim the arrests came after a three year investigation conducted by state and federal agents that found the accused individuals and four accomplices sold illegal chemical products over the internet. The two men now face 16 federal charges, which could land one of the men in prison for life.

A federal drug crime charge, especially one that alleges a federal drug trafficking offense, can wreck an individual’s life if not properly defended against. A criminal conviction may bring decades of prison time and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, depending on the specific allegations. Even when one serves his or her prison sentence, such a conviction will likely follow him or her around for the rest of his or her life, making it difficult to establish stable personal and professional relationships.

Individuals who face drug trafficking charges are in a fight for their lives. Therefore, every effort should be made to ensure an aggressive defense is crafted. A defense attorney skilled in this area of the law can be quite beneficial in protecting an accused individual’s legal rights and fighting for his or her best interests. Hopefully sound legal argument based on the law and evidence will prove beneficial by obtaining an acquittal or getting charges dropped or reduced.
