2 in California face federal Internet-related charges

According to the Department of Justice, two Sacramento, California men recently pled guilty to serious internet-related federal charges. A Department of Justice news release stated that the two men pled guilty in two separate cases to possessing child pornography. Both cases arose from ongoing investigations into Internet crimes involving child pornography.

Both of the cases were the result of investigations conducted by the Sacramento, California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the United States Department of Justice.

Agents from the California Department of Justice were able to identify one of the men through an Internet file-sharing network. The man was accused of offering files of child pornography through the website. According to the Department, after obtaining a search warrant, federal agents found nearly 100,000 images and videos on the man's computers.

In a similar matter involving an Internet file-sharing network, agents were again able to identify the computer of one of the users of the site that was allegedly offering child pornography through the network. Upon executing a search warrant and conducting a forensic analysis of the man's computer, the agents allegedly found evidence that the man downloaded pornographic content pertaining to children, and that he had saved approximately 1,500 videos and nearly 750 images on child porn from the web site.

Being charged with any sort of sex crime can be devastating. Too often, the mere allegation is enough to hurt a person's reputation. That is why it is so important to seek good legal counsel. A strong advocate will work to establish a plea agreement with the prosecution, as well as strive to protect a person's privacy. An ideal advocate will also seek to exclude tainted or prejudicial evidence, or evidence obtained improperly. In such cases, working with someone with a strong understanding of the courts is key clearing a person's name.
